GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

 

Guinness world Records is  a record book which consists of both human achievements  and the extremes of natural world  which includes the world’s longest reef, most dangerous ant , most dangerous tree, tallest waterfall etc.., Guinness World  Records  was also called as The Guinness Book Of  Records from 1995 to 1999.

History:-

        The idea came about in the 1950’s when Sir Hugh Beaver who was an English South African Engineer, also the Founder and Managing Director of Guinness Brewery, attended a shooting party in country Wexford.

 

After missing a shot on the Golden Plover, Hugh and the hosts involved in an argument about which is the fastest bird in Europe. At the evening at Castel   bridge house, Hugh realised  that  he cannot find an answers in any reference books.

After that, he thought this kind of debates will go everywhere but there was no records to settle those debates. And then he came to the idea of supplying answers to this sort of debates.

               On 1954, Hugh invited the twins Norris an McWhirters  who were the  fact finding researchers and also the friends of Guinness employee Christopher Chataway to compile the book of records.

               A thousand copies of The Guinness Book of  Records were printed and givenaway. The first copy bound on 27thAugust 1995 with 198 pages. The sales were on the peak during Christmas occasions.

RECORDS:-

             Before  performing the records, the public should submit their application for records. The records can be either of existing records or any substantial achievements which could constitute a record.

               The Guinness World  Records reject some applications  due to ethical reasons which includes the killing or harming of animals .Eating and Drinking records from human achievement were also removed in1991.

               As of 2021 edition, now its 66 year of publication.  The books were sold over 100 countries in 23 languages which includes  Romanian, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Spanish, Icelandic, Turkish ,Tamil etc.., with 53000 records in database.

            In 1955 1,87,000  books were sold and gradually their sales were increased every year. And on 1974 The Guinness Book Of Records becomes the biggest selling copyright book in the history. Till now 143 million copies of Guinness World Records books were sold .
